Who are Project North East?


 
 
Two men shaking handsBased in Newcastle upon Tyne (UK), the Project North East (PNE) group of companies run a diverse range of enterprise, and economic development initiatives. Funded from a variety of private, charitable and public sources,
PNE is independent, and not-for-profit.

We provide advice, consultancy, finance, training, and incubator workspace to new and established entrepreneurs in the region. PNE also runs the Shell LiveWIRE programme for the UK, and through Shell LiveWIRE International establishes similar programmes in many other countries around the world.

What We Do

  • Small Business: a wide range of services to support the development of small businesses including consultancy, advice, training, and loan finance.
  • Workspace Development: refurbishment, and management of serviced accommodation for small businesses. Tenants are mainly in the creative or new media sectors, e.g. multimedia, design, and web technologies.
  • Shell LiveWIRE: the UK-wide partnership that enables young people to develop their own business ideas. PNE manages the UK programme, and leads in the development of similar initiatives throughout the World.
  • Economic Development: assistance for public and private sector organisations. in the UK and abroad. Assignments have included strategic advice for Government Task Forces, and strategy studies for local authorities.
  • Voluntary Sector: a range of customised training, and consultancy services to help social entreprenuers to develop new initiatives in their local communities.

What We've Done

Since its launch in 1980 PNE has:
Reached over 140,000 people through promotions.
Directly helped over 1,600 people to start up in business and helped over 1,600 businesses wanting to grow.

Lent over £1.7m to people starting or expanding a business, levering £5.4m from elsewhere.

Converted over 130,000 sq ft of redundant buildings to provide workspace for small businesses as well as exhibition and conference facilities.
